        We opened this month A brochure will be sent to you in your membership newsletter. We need to work together and have two people at our library during the open hours. If you are going to volunteer, please contact Lois and let her know. Our hours will be 3 days a week to start:
Mondays 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Thursdays 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM

        MCHS Presentation Meeting for August          
        August 31, 2010 Mercer County Historical Society's Regular Meeting at 908 Harrison Street in Princeton, WV. This special program event was very well attended.         Spaghetti Luncheon, Friday Sept. 10th          
        On Friday, Sept 10th, the Mercer County Historical Society will conduct a fund raiser Spaghetti Luncheon. You can eat in at the Historical Society's 908 Harrison Street address, or carry out. The serving will include Spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, desssert and ice tea. The cost is $6.50 per serving.         4 Seasons Antiques Auction on Sept. 11th          
        The Historical Society will be serving concessions at the 4 Seasons Antiques Auction Sale on Sept. 11th. This auction is for the estate of the late Joseph Marsh, former President of Concord University. See their web site for more details.         Grant Writing Workshop, October 7th          
        The Historical Society will be sponsoring a grant writing workshop, presented by the WV Humanities Council Grant Administrator, Amy Sanders. It will begin at 10:30 and last approximately 2 hours. FINAL STAGES -  WE NEED YOUR HELP

We are still in need of local history books for our library, which is now open. We will be open 3 days a week in the beginning and as we continue to grow, we may eventually open 5 days a week. We need local county history books, surrounding county history books and family genealogies. If you would like to help us purchase much needed books for the library,  please send a donation TO OUR ADDRESS and we will label the book’s interior in your honor or in memory of a loved one. This library will be the only one in Mercer County labeled as a "Specialty Library", recognized by the State of WV.  If you are interested in volunteering to help staff the library or donate books, please contact Lois Miller at

Cemetery Project

          
        If you know where any cemeteries are in Mercer County, no matter what size, please let Dreama Reed know. Dreama is chairman of the cemetery project. There are over 500 cemetery locations in Mercer County. The Historical Society will be publishing these lists, along with directions and pictures. She also needs help going to enumerate them. Mercer County Fair

          
        The Mercer County Fair was held on August 6 & 7 at Pikeview High School. We served concessions as a fund raiser for our club. We greatly appreciated all visitors who stopped by our booth and supported us by buying our great food preparations.         Autumn Fest is just around the corner, September 26. Check future newsletters, but mark your calendars now.
